TARRA BULGA NATIONAL PARK Ideal for a Picnic or Bird Watching

Tarra-Bulga National Park is located
in south-eastern Victoria's Strzelecki
Ranges, one of only four major areas
of cool temperate rainforest in the state.

Among the park's features are its lush,
moist gullies, giant Mountain Ash trees
and beautiful treeferns.

A perfect park to visit in all seasons,
Tarra-Bulga allows you to escape the
heat and explore the cool forest in the
hot summer months.

The rainforest looks its best in winter,

with leaves glistening
and creeks flowing
through the gullies.
Some visitors are even
lucky enough to see
the park transformed
by a spectacular white
blanket of snow.
Facilities and Accommodation

Camping is not permitted within the park.
Accommodation, information,
food, fuel and maps are available 50 metres
from the Visitors' Centre, at the Tarra-Bulga
Guest House.

Accommodation is also available in Traralgon,
Yarram, and throughout the Strzeleckis in private
guest houses and caravan parks.

For further information please contact
the Yarram Visitor Information Centre
on (03) 5182 6553 or Gippsland Tourism
on (03) 5174 3199.

Tarra-Bulga is a popular picnic spot. Facilities are provided at the Bulga picnic area, Tarra Valley picnic area and at the Visitors' Centre.
The rainforest is full of song birds. Keep an eye out for the unique Lyrebird, Pilot Bird, Crimson Rosella and the Yellow Robin. Yellow tailed Black Cockatoos may fly over with their creaking calls, but don't be fooled - the Lyrebird is a very clever mimic. Quiet walkers might see the shy Lyrebird scratching the forest floor in search of food.

Things to see and do

Tarra-Bulga has something for everyone.
Take time to meander along the nature
walks, enjoy a picnic, or explore the scenic
drives. The Visitors' Centre, located on the
Grand Ridge Road in Balook, is an ideal place
to start your visit. Displays and an audio-visual
describe the diverse plants and animals in the
park and take you back to yesteryear when
European settlers lived under harsh conditions
in the Strzelecki Ranges. Children can explore
the `touch table' and take part in various activities,
while the staff are happy to recommend walks
or provide information.
